Chat with Documents

1. Select the Documents chatbot under the Modules tab in your assigned course.

   

2. Select a language GPTutor should use to respond.

   

   

3. You may type a question in the textbox or select one of the starter questions for each document.

   

   GPTutor will attempt to answer your questions based on relevant content from all documents associated with the Document chatbot.

   • References to the documents may be provided in responses. You may click the reference number to navigate to the corresponding page of the document.
   • You can click “Explain using an example” / “Explain using an analogy” to ask for a clearer explanation, or select a follow-up question to continue.

   

   You may provide feedback on a response by hovering over it and selecting the thumbs-up or thumbs-down button. You can also regenerate responses.

   

4. The panel shows all the documents associated with the Document chatbot. You can:

   • Navigate to the documents by clicking their filename.

   

   • Hover over the document’s filename to view the document summary.

   

   • Hide/show the documents panel (file list and PDF viewer together) using the documents icon in the chat header.

   

   • On desktop, pop the documents panel out into a floating window using the pop-out button in the panel header. You can drag, resize, minimize, or maximize the window, and dock it back when you are done. Use the chevron on the PDF edge to collapse or expand the file list inside the panel.

5. You can click the search button to search within the current document.

   

6. You can click the view summary button to show the document summary and view the starter questions for the selected document.

   

7. You can click the explain this page button to ask GPTutor to explain the current page of the document further.

   

8. Click the back to conversation list button to return to the conversation list view. You may start a new conversation by typing a new question or select an existing conversation to continue.

   

Here are some examples of questions you may ask:

• Can you explain the concept of [specific topic] in simpler terms?
• What does [term or concept] mean in the context of [subject]?
• How does [concept A] differ from [concept B]?
• What are the similarities and differences between [theory A] and [theory B]?
• What are the potential impacts of [event or action] on [subject or phenomenon]?
• How does [factor] influence [outcome]?
• How can I apply [concept or theory] to real-world situations?
• What are some examples of [idea] in practice?
• What are the strengths and weaknesses of [argument or theory]?
• What evidence supports [a particular viewpoint]?
• What are the different perspectives on [issue or topic]?
• What would happen if [scenario] occurred?
• How might [concept] change under different conditions?
• How can I integrate [two concepts] to form a new understanding?
• What new ideas emerge when combining [topic A] and [topic B]?
